BVI Free Range Chicken

Guess this is my little metaphor on chickens and roads. There were lots of chickens running around, but they weren’t in the boards I was suppose to shoot. I just made this image while we were waiting on talent or something(I think it was also a lunch break). My grandfather had a big chicken farm in Missouri, and the sound of these birds brought back lots of memories. They are a bit odd to watch if you take the time. Makes you wonder why you would ever eat one.

This is Kevin, the writer on the project. Late in the week we had a ATV segment we were suppose to shoot on top of one of the Islands and it necessitated the crew/entourage (extra people on a set that I never quite know why they are there, but it’s a party if you don’t have any pressure on) to go up this mountain in ATV’s. Kevin was there to help, direct, smile and always bring a good spirit to the process.

Isle of Conch

I don’t think I’ve ever put my own picture on this blog, but this is such a fun image. It was taken by Brian the producer while I scouted the area for a perspective to make the shot from. It’s a huge expanse of water and these are mammoth conch shells piles left by the local fishermen over many years. While I was trying to determine the best viewpoint(I thought it would be best shot from the water level) the three production boats we were had been traveling in drifted away, and when I turned around and found them a good 75 yards off, I did have a certain sense of isolation. The crew all waved like it had been nice knowing me.

After getting back from a cold and rainy shoot in South Carolina, I had one day to repack and head to the warmer climate of the British Virgin Islands. Shooting mostly motion work for broadcast. Spent most of the week bouncing between two large catamarans, but also rode with the crew in this open bus. I know it sounds like fun, but we had a limited crew, aggressive schedule and were stretching hard to create some big work. So I don’t remember too much about how beautiful it was, but I do remember it was beautiful.

Cold Dark Morning Set-Up

Last day of the shoot we drove an hour to get to the site 45 minutes before first light. Do the math, that’s early, and it was wet and cold. We were trying to get lake scenics, but there was going to be no pretty sunrise light & certainly no glamor in the effort. Always fascinates me that the crew is so professional in that situation. Doesn’t matter how they feel, they just diligently go about the work that needs to be done. I don’t take that for granted. I respect their dedication, try to make sure they have coffee, and pay attention when their hands start shaking as they hand me equipment.

The other dog on the set was even bigger. I caught him deciding what he wanted to do with these shoes.
