Now

Given that over the years mankind and the domesticated dog have so wrapped themselves around each other, the inclination is to think that dogs might give life some profound thought, like we might have on a quiet moment at a beach staring into the vastness of an ocean sunrise on a new years morning. However, mostly what I understand dog behaviorists say about dogs is all they think about is “now.” No you are thinking about a moment ago, now, no now. Not much else just, now. Little hard to figure that one, because we are busy connecting dots or anticipating actions, needs, changes ahead, and they just thinking about, NOW, or now, only now. Free of any contextual obligation, that could be considered nihilistic I suppose, but generally they have us to keep all that in line. In addition they get food, shelter, affection. and now.

End Of Summer

Shot this picture last January, but I thought I’d run it for the last day of my favorite season(guess that was yesterday). Fall is a nice time of year and we certainly don’t have bad winters so I’ll enjoy each day as it comes.

Found Grit

Got a call yesterday from a client about a shoot that needed a specific approach and asking for some samples. That request always leads to a scramble through the known files to pull together a presentation that goes beyond the usual website images. It’s time consuming, but you want to show good work.  Usually you spend some extra time digging a little deeper into old jobs and sometimes find an image that you’d forgotten about. Perhaps it didn’t meet the client’s needs at the time, but it’s nice to find an image you still like. I don’t show much work from jobs on this site, but this lands on the personal side of my vision(an overused lofty word these days, but I don’t know what else to call it).  I also realize this was my first full digital shoot and a lots changed since then but, nothing like the transitions going on right now.

Caterpillars

Came back from a weeklong shoot and found these caterpillars had taken over my parsley(“the dingo’s ate ma baby”). My first thought was eradication like they had done to my parsley, but then I thought the parsley is all gone anyway and maybe they’ll now become butterflies. Plus they didn’t seem to favor any of the other herbs, so I let them finish. The parsley has since recovered, and the caterpillars have left for their next life, or became lunch for a bird. Maybe I’ll get a fly-by at some point in appreciation for the meal.

End of the Rainbow

Couple months ago I stepped out on my condo balcony after a storm and saw this rainbow.  At the apparent end of that rainbow is a new bank building under construction.

Benches

Yesterday wasn’t particularly easy, not that I’m owed, but this business always has it twists and turns. Anyway late in the day I just grabbed a camera and lens and headed out to spend some time taking pictures of these favorite benches near my place. Felt good.
