Birdhouse Crush

On reviewing the files from this shoot I realized I must have liked that birdhouse since apparently I photographed it a number of times. Here are three of the versions. Not sure what to take of my sensibilities given that attraction. I know I like the color red, and I like most birds, but this is a little sappy.

Like nearly every farm I’ve been on, there were cats. This one seemed to want to be friendly, but his ear was bothering him & he looked miserable.
Basketball Hoop

There was a basketball hoop on the side of one of a barn that has seen some years go by. Given it was over grass there’d be no opportunity to learn any significant dribbling skills. Wonder what the difference between a city kids experience on hard courts, street, or playgrounds, vs. a farm kids experience where there’s no surface that you can learn to dribble a ball. Maybe there’s a sports anthropologists doing thesis work who can spend a lot of time figuring that out, probably on a grant.

I like the simple practicality of most small farms. There’s not a lot of time for style, what works is what stays, what lasts is what’s strong enough to survive.

I also took a few pictures of the mature lettuce.

Seedlings

One of the days at the B&B we took a trip to a local farm and heard a farmer discuss his techniques for sustainability. Interesting information, but I was busy taking pictures of the textures. This is lettuce seedlings in planters. I’ve always enjoyed seeing leaves like this in black and white. There’s not much chance to do black and white on assignment now so it’s nice to play with those tones on my personal work.
