As I mentioned in an earlier post, the one morning I had free from the shoot I took a tram to the top of Sugar Loaf for a better view of Rio. On the way up the girl in front of me was concerned about the nature of a tram ride and her boyfriend appeared glad to offer her comfort.

So here is the famous beach at Ipanema. It’s a nice enough beach, but you wonder what would have become of it had the song never been written.

On my last afternoon I was trying to get one more variation on the lighting of the scene I needed, but I got an afternoon storm instead. I made it back to the hotel before the rain came.

After the light had died last night and I had the shot, I couldn’t help but shoot the Ipanema cliché sunset. Again I compare this to writing bad poetry, but it’s fun. Interesting that the Brazilians are really in touch with their sunset as they set on the beach and applaud as it disappears on the horizon. That’s celebrating life.
I have one more shoot late in the afternoon, and then take a late night flight back to Virginia.
